Your most Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions that have not been answered on this site.

How long is each session?

Each session is fifty minutes to one-hour in length.  Additional time over the hour is pro-rated.

How many sessions will I need?

Your first session is usually an intake session where we discuss a variety of topics including your goals. In the beginning, it is most effective to come weekly as momentum is built.  As your process progresses, we can reassess what is going to work best for you to achieve long-term, positive changes.  Everyone seeks therapy for different reasons so there is no magic number, but it is realistic to suggest that as you heal, less sessions are required.

How much is each session?

Each 50-minute session is $195.  I also offer a sliding scale for a limited number of clients based on their household income (**sliding scale is currently FULL**).  Sessions are paid by e-transfer.

Will my sessions be covered by OHIP or insurance?

At this time, OHIP does not cover psychotherapy, however, check with your insurance provider to see if Registered Psychotherapists are covered under your plan.

Are sessions in-person?  Are phone or video sessions available?

All sessions are currently being offered by video and phone.

What if I need to re-schedule or cancel my appointment?

If you need to re-schedule or cancel your appointment, please do so within 48 business hours before your scheduled appointment time. Otherwise, you will be charged the full session fee.

What reasons do people seek psychotherapy?  How do I know psychotherapy is for me?

There are many reasons people seek therapy:

Are you having trouble in your relationships?

Do you have difficulty saying no and setting boundaries?

Do you enjoy taking care of other people, but often forget to take care of yourself?

Do you ever feel "jittery" and on edge?

Do you often criticize yourself?

Do you feel alone and confused without any motivation to make changes?

Do you want to express yourself but you don't know how?

If the answer is yes to any of these, then you've come to the right place.  I am here to help and guide you through your sadness,  lack of motivation, unhealthy relationships, low self-esteem to get you to where you want to be.

You can find out more about individual psychotherapy here.  I offer a complimentary 15-minute exploratory session over the phone so we can both decide if working together is a good fit.

Are my sessions kept confidential?

In general, all communication between us is confidential and I will only release information about our work to others at your request and with your written permission.  Under certain circumstances, I may be required to disclose information obtained during therapy to other persons / agencies. These circumstances include:  â€¢ If I am concerned that you intend to harm yourself. • If you threaten grave bodily harm or death to yourself or another, I may inform medical or law enforcement personnel. • If I am concerned that a child, dependant adult, or elder is being abused in any way. • If you report the sexual misconduct of a mental health practitioner and mention the name of that person. • If my clinical notes or records are ordered by a judge during a criminal or civil trial that you are involved in.

I will do everything I can to keep your records confidential, however, given the above circumstances, it may be out of my control to do so.
